Ada M. Oltman was born on January 8, 1934 in Olton, Texas to Harry and Elizabeth Pierce Huguley, passed away on April 6, 2019 at the age of 85.
Ada was the fifth of six children. She and her family moved to Amarillo when she was in the third grade. Ada graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952 where she was a member of the Secretarial Training Club. She went on to work for the United States Air Force in Amarillo Texas, where she met Don Oltman whom she married on May 2, 1953. Together they had three children: David, Carol and Mary. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education, Professional Counselor.
Ada was a dedicated school teacher for the Amarillo Independent School District for 23 years. She and Don attended Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church where they were members for six decades. In her retirement years, she spent time quilting and was part of a quilting circle that met at Panhandle Plains Museum in Canyon, Texas. When she wasn't quilting Ada was busy sewing with other ladies from her church making; Christmas stockings, hats, walker bags or other items needed at the Veterans Hospital and other facilities around the Amarillo community.
Ada was preceded in death by her loving husband Don Oltman and son, David Oltman. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Wall and husband Patrick of Cibolo, TX , Mary Sanders and husband Tony of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Sheri Wall Moore and husband Kevin, Tim Wall, Kirby Sanders and Brooke Sanders; great-grandchildren, Elise and Macey Moore.
Ada will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private family service in Amarillo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 3500 Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.
