Lorraine Crook

Lorraine Edna Crook, age 83 from Schertz, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023. She was born in Selma, Texas, August 9, 1939, to Hilmar and Pearl Penshorn. Lorraine was raised in New Braunfels, Texas. She met her future husband, Clifton Crook from San Marcos, by almost tripping over him while he was fishing in a tank near Wimberly, Tx. As their love grew, he proposed to her while watching the Disney movie Bambi. They were married, August 8, 1958, and moved to Schertz, Texas after their son Bryan was born, then came their daughter Lisa, 6 years later. Lorraine worked in insurance most of her life and with the Schertz Housing Authority. She was very active in the Volunteer Fire Department Woman’s Auxiliary holding the title of president for the Texas Fireman’s Woman’s Auxiliary. She loved creating with crafts, flower arranging and decorating. She was active in the Schertz Methodist Church, where she and Clifton taught Sunday School for many years to the high school class. She enjoyed hunting with Clifton and camping. She will be missed by her family, many friends, neighbors, church friends and her bunco group.

She is survived by her husband Clifton Crook, son Bryan and wife Sandra of Houston, TX , daughter Lisa and husband Steve (Caudle) of Peoria, AZ, granddaughters, Kelley Hunt Gay and Amanda Hunt Jacobsen, siblings, Roy Penshorn and Joice Haufler and many other family members.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at Schertz Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Funeral service from 11:00 to 12:00pm, with burial at Humphreys Cemetery in Martindale, TX at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer Association, www.alz.org.
