1SG Phillip J. Williams, United States Army, (Ret.) born on April 1, 1947, passed away on March 1, 2012, at the age of 64. Phil enjoyed traveling, and sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the highlight of his life was serving his country, receiving the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), among many others. His parents, Wiley and Viola Williams, and his brother, Cassie Williams, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Carolyne L. Williams; son, Shawn M. Williams; grandson, Landon A. Williams; siblings, Wiley Williams, Jr., Mary Ann Williams, Gregory Williams, Pamela Leong, Richard Williams, Sharon Williams, Joseph Williams and Christopher Williams; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and family members. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. Due to scheduling, the Graveside Service will not be held until Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at 9:45AM, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with United States Army Honors.
